Things for Sitting On...
As a teacher, I enjoy the times when I get to sit. I like to be surrounded by nice things on the rare opportunities I have for just sitting back with a cup of tea and relaxing!
There are a wide variety of designs I have worked on, using a variety of techniques, many of which are listed below. If you have something in particular you would like help in realising, let me know!
Blankets and Quilts
Biscuit QuiltA lovely multi-coloured blanket which creates and interesting texture through pleated 'biscuits' stuffed with padding. Super comfy for babies!
|
Tartan blanketA very simple blanket made from an old blanket and a new piece of checked fabric to tie in a blue theme - very useful on cold nights.

Blanket Box..I've wanted one of these for ages! They're ridiculously priced on Ebay - I managed to find an old battered one in a local market and bartered them down to £12. I revitalized it with about £10 worth of extras! A lot of work in this - it took about a week of my holiday - but I'm really proud of the end result!

Changing TableAn old chest of drawers, transformed into a changing table... A 'safety barrier' added to the top - technology teacher husbands are useful for this sort of thing. Two top drawers were removed and replaced with baskets for easy access to nappies and other supplies. The whole surface was then coated in white paint. The drawers were lined with blue spotty fabric and their front covered in blue paper and then new handles added.
|
Gliding ChairI managed to find a second hand glider chair on Ebay for £4 (yes, £4 - totally worth the drive into deepest darkest Northumberland to collect!). It needed a serious clean, then the footstool needed covering and some new ribbon ties added. The blanket and cushions made it look brand new!
|
Home Sweet HomeA cushion created using a made up technique, involving sewing with wool (I guess a kind of tapestry?!). This is then backed on red and white spotty fabric and completed using an envelope fold closing.
|
Steve the RabbitA Rabbit made especially for Jenny and her pet rabbit Steve! The rabbit motif was made from fluffy fabric and sewn on using a machine-applique technique, before being backed on to blue fabric and completed using an envelope fold.
|
Patchwork CushionsIn many designs, inluding square and hexagonal (this appeals to the mathematician in me!). Each cushion is quilted before being completed using an envelope fold.
